Reiki

My relationship with this Japanese healing therapy is one that constantly evolves. The word Reiki (ray-key) means ‘universal life force energy’. It is an ancient hands-on healing system formalised by Dr Mikao Usui at the beginning of the 20th century in Japan. Many cultures have handed down knowledge of hands-on healing methods throughout history to promote balance and well-being.

Reiki healers have been attuned by a Reiki Master. Attunements awaken and amplify the life force energy in anyone who has a desire to learn, so that they can become a recipient or a channel for energy. Reiki accelerates the healing process by supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

As a healing energy, Reiki is present whenever I give a treatment. I tend to use Reiki alongside Massage and Reflexology to increase their effectiveness. Like the other therapies, a full Reiki treatment can be powerful but the effects may be subtler initially. It may encourage the release of unhelpful holding patterns. Written explanations fall short of the experience of receiving. There is a meditative quality to a Reiki treatment that encourages deep relaxation and calm. Reiki can have the power to hold you in the moment.
