Reflexology is based on the idea that the body is mirrored on the feet and hands, as a system of zones and reflex areas. By applying pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger and hand techniques, Reflexology aims to affect the corresponding part of the body. By encouraging balance and detoxification, the person can be gently supported in their return to health and improved well being.
This approach may achieve a similar release of tension to massage but demands less of the person physically. One of its many strengths is the ability to treat symptoms remotely. Reflexology is deeply relaxing and re-energising. It is this deep relaxation that allows your immune system to be stimulated and enables the body to begin healing itself, removing congestion and toxins. Many conditions benefit from this effective, non-invasive therapy.
Reflexology is well known for treating stress-related conditions. However, it’s application is broad, for example it may be used for orthopaedic stress, during pregnancy and labour, regulating hormones, for toothache, anxiety, following a stroke, supporting ME suffers or just taking time to ‘listen to the silence’.
As well as using ‘conventional’ Reflexology, I use Vertical Reflex Therapy (VRT) – Reflexology standing up! This powerful technique enhances the healing power of touch, particularly in orthopaedic conditions and pain management.
Many people have heard that reflexology can be used to diagnose conditions. Whilst diagnosis is not possible, highlighting areas that are out of balance and under duress is. The body is intelligent; it will use the healing it receives to rebalance itself. You will not come out of a treatment with a diagnosis but you will end the treatment feeling grounded and balanced.
